OCALA, Florida – Aug 30 2012 07:01:03 AM EDT
Ocala, Florida Republican Judge John E. Futch of Marion County Court of Florida knows he has a reputation as a “hanging judge,” a throw-the-book-at-them type who dispenses justice swiftly and harshly. Judge Futch, 56, who has been a county judge since 1988, says “I have the reputation of being a heartless beast.”
This seems to be the case, as Judge Futch sentenced a homeless man to 180 days in jail for stealing $2 worth of candy.
Delvis Rodriguez-Ramos, already on probation for theft, pleaded guilty Wednesday August 29th to taking Twix and Snickers bars from an Ocala store.
An employee noticed the candy missing Saturday. Rodriguez-Ramos denied taking the candy, but returned to the store Monday and confessed.
The employee asked him to come back Tuesday to talk about it. When Rodriguez-Ramos showed up, the employee called police.
Rodriguez-Ramos said he had not eaten in a few days and was hungry.
But Futch asked why Rodriguez-Ramos didn’t try to find a job or seek help from a homeless shelter. Find a job? What a question!
Futch also fined Rodriguez-Ramos $500.
Now the taxpayers pay for Rodriguez-Ramez 180 day room and board. Florida cities have had to reduce services to the homeless and made them more difficult to access. The result is a hungry man who stole some candy, and went back to the store to confess, will now be serving 180 days in jail.
Is this social justice in the “greatest” nation ever to exist?
Meanwhile, Jon Corzine, who stole or lost $700 million worth of his customers’ money is a free man—too big to prosecute.
