Good enough for John Boehner is not good enough for the Birthers—or for me

Obama's parents, Barack Hussein Obama Sr. & Stacey Ann Dunham

Obama's parents - Barack Hussein Obama Sr. & Stacey Ann Dunham

New Republican House Speaker John Boehner says he doesn’t question President Barack Obama’s place of birth but it’s not within his purview to tell others what to think.

The fact that Boehner “doesn’t question” Obama’s place of birth makes it a dead issue – at least for Boehner.

“The state of Hawaii has said that President Obama was born there.  That’s good enough for me,” Boehner, R-Ohio, told NBC’s Brian Williams in an interview to air Thursday night on NBC Nightly News.

That was a cleverly evasive answer by a master politician.

Pressed by Williams on what he would say to members of his party who have expressed doubts about Obama’s citizenry, Boehner replied: “Brian, when you come to the Congress of the United States, there are 435 of us.  We’re nothing more than a slice of America. People come, regardless of party labels, they come with all kinds of beliefs and ideas.  It’s the melting pot of America.  It’s not up to me to tell them what to think.”

Now, Boehner leads Brian Williams off target by not answering the question and saying what he won’t be saying.  Who knows what Boehner really thinks—or cares?

The Birthers have dogged Obama with claims that he is ineligible to be president saying there’s no proof he was born in the United States.  Hawaii officials say Obama was born there and point to a birth certificate showing the president’s birth date of Aug.  4, 1961, city and name, along with his parents’ names and races.

Why no Hawaiian hospital records?

    Actually, Obama was the first and only US president to have published his birth certificate. The birth certificate he published is the certification of live birth of Hawaii, which is the official birth certificate of Hawaii, used by thousands of people every year. And, it is the only birth certificate that Hawaii has sent out to anyone since 2001, when it became the official birth certificate. Hawaii has not sent out the long-form birth certificate that was issued prior to 2001 to anyone since 2001, even to people born before 2001.

      Mind you, I am not a Birther, but there are some serious questions about Obama’s birthplace. A certification of live birth MEANS NOTHING. Please read my prior post on how many Mexicans have managed to have birth certificates from two countries. It is an easy thing to do, and you do not have to be Mexican to accomplish it. Please read my prior post on this.

  • Yes, that’s right – a certification of birth is not a birth certificate. The article from the Buffalo News only mentions someone who heard of Obama’s being born in Hawaii. Hey, I heard that Obama was born in Hawaii also. Unfortunately the reputed doctor, Dr. West who assisted at the birth is dead.

    You do give two pieces of evidence, however. Unfortunately this is hearsay evidence as you produce no documentation. One is Dr. West, and the other is that the supposed birth of Obama took place at Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women & Children in Honolulu.

    You wouldn’t get to first base – not even with Judge Judy with your flimsy hearsay “evidence.”

    Would in not be an easy thing for Obama to request his hospital birth record? Why doesn’t he do it?

    Until he does, he may be judged no better than the Mexicans who have both US (including California) and Mexican birth certificates.

    Hi,
    if it matters to Americans, can CIA or FBI be asked to assist?

    patriot

  • Patriot: You’ve got me there. Since Obama, as President, is in control of both the CIA and FBI, I would think there is little that those organizations can do.

  • patriot

    Oh, sorry to hear this.
    Me thought law enforcement agencies administer law and justice over everyone.
    In olden day China, the emperor was expected to respect the law like commoner.

  • Patriot: I guess Washington has reached new levels of corruption. It is a very bad situation for all normal honest Americans.

    Obama has posted the OFFICIAL birth certificate of Hawaii. Yes, the Certification of Live Birth is the official birth certificate, and it is the only one that Hawaii has issued since 2001.

    The Wall Street Journal said:

    “The birthers have also misrepresented the law in the claims they have made about Obama’s birth certificate. In truth, Obama has proved that he is a native of Hawaii, and this proof would hold up in any legal or administrative proceeding.

    In order to explain the birthers’ deception on this point, it is necessary to delve into the arcana of Hawaiian vital records. The document that Obama has released, which carries the title “certification of live birth,” confirms that the president was born in Honolulu. It is a legal birth certificate, and, as the Honolulu Star-Bulletin notes, it is the only kind of birth certificate the state of Hawaii issues….

    Further, if Congress were to pass the so-called birther bill, Obama would be able to comply easily. The bill would require presidential campaigns to submit “a copy of the candidate’s birth certificate” to the Federal Election Commission. The certificate Obama has released publicly would meet this requirement.”

    The witness relays what the doctor told her. It is only further confirmation to the THREE REPUBLICAN officials who have already confirmed the facts on Obama’s birth certificate. A total of four, including the clerk who filled in the form, would have to be lying for the facts to differ from the document in the files. I am told that the attorney general of Hawaii is a conservative Republican. If he thought that there was anything wrong with Obama’s birth certificate, he could have subpoenaed the original and taken action. But he didn’t.

    For Obama to have been born in any other country than the USA requires the combination of:

    (1) Travel by his mother during late pregnancy (highly unlikely because of the high expense and high risk of such a trip in 1961);

    (2) Birth outside of Hawaii (also unlikely);

    (3) Birth abroad despite the absence of any foreign documents or photographs showing either that Obama was born in a foreign country or that his mother was in the country at the time (highly unlikely);

    (4) The willingness of the parents to lie about his place of birth (unlikely since it would be a crime to file a false government document, and the lie would be unnecessary since for most purposes naturalizing a foreign-born child would be just as good as his being born in the country);

    (5) Successfully smuggling the child into the USA without a US travel document (extremely unlikely), and;

    (6) Convincing the officials in Hawaii that he was born in Hawaii (also extremely unlikely).

    ALL of these six things would be required for there to be a reasonable case that he was born in any other country than the USA. What are the odds of all six of them happening?

    The willingness to believe that Obama was born outside of the USA despite the overwhelming odds against it and despite all the evidence that he was born in Hawaii is why Ann Coulter, Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly all call birthers crazy.

    • (1) Travel by his mother during late pregnancy (highly unlikely because of the high expense and high risk of such a trip in 1961);

      She could have traveled after Obama was born.

      (2) Birth outside of Hawaii (also unlikely);

      Kenya is a likely birthplace for Obama outside of Hawaii.

      (3) Birth abroad despite the absence of any foreign documents or photographs showing either that Obama was born in a foreign country or that his mother was in the country at the time (highly unlikely);

      A supposition on your part. Who says Obama entered the country without documents. He could have come in with his Kenyan birth certificate.

      He even had hospital records (something Hawaii appears not to have).

      (4) The willingness of the parents to lie about his place of birth (unlikely since it would be a crime to file a false government document, and the lie would be unnecessary since for most purposes naturalizing a foreign-born child would be just as good as his being born in the country);

      Who says it was the parents that filed the “false government document.” If Obama were naturalized, he could not become president.

      (5) Successfully smuggling the child into the USA without a US travel document (extremely unlikely), and;

      Again – Obama could have had a Kenyan passport AND Kenyan hospital records.

      (6) Convincing the officials in Hawaii that he was born in Hawaii (also extremely unlikely).

      No need to convince – a simple declaration would do it – the Mexicans do it all the time.

      Suggest you read my prior posts before asking questions that have already been answered.

      All the best,
      John

    Re: “He could have come in with his Kenyan birth certificate. ”

    He would have required a US VISA. If there were an application for a US visa for him in Kenya, it would have been found LONG AGO. There weren’t that many applications for US visas in Kenya in 1961.

    The crazy Kenya myth requires the combination of Cobama’s parents going to Kenya (at a huge cost, some $20,00 or so in 2010 terms) despite the risk of miscarriage (only travel late in pregnancy fits the scenario) and the risk of Yellow Fever, and that Kenya sealed the documents indicating that Obama’s mother arrived and all the birth certificates–and even the fact that anything had been sealed. AND, it requires that the parents were able to slip Obama through US immigration without either a US visa or a US passport, and then finally that they were able to convince the officials in Hawaii (who required proof before issuing a birth certificate with a Hawaiian location on it), that Obama was actually born in Hawaii.

    The National Review said: “The theory that Obama was born in Kenya, that he was smuggled into the U.S., and that his parents somehow hoodwinked Hawaiian authorities into falsely certifying his birth in Oahu, is crazy stuff.”

    Obama’s Kenyan grandmother NEVER said that he was born in Kenya. She said repeatedly in the taped interview that Obama was born in Hawaii, where his father was studying, and she said in another interview that the first that her family in Kenya had heard of Obama’s birth was in a letter FROM HAWAII.

    And, the facts on Obama’s official birth certificate have been repeatedly confirmed by the Republican officials and Republican governor of Hawaii.

  • Granite

    That should read $20,000, not $20,00

  • Granite: You are just quoting what other people (interested parties, no less) say. Without some sort of documentation you are just repeating words. Mind you, I am not a Birther, it’s just that I think it odd that Obama has not come forth with the necessary documents – such as hospital records.

    Did George Bush show his birth certificate? Did the fact that he didn’t mean that he was born in Canada? Aren’t the chances of George Bush being born in Canada many thousands of times higher than Barack Obama being born in Kenya–considering the distance, the expense and the risk of the trip?

    Of all the US presidents, Obama was the first to have published his birth certificate, and the facts on it were confirmed repeatedly by the officials in Hawaii. That was three officials in the Republican administration of Linda Lingle. A total of four would have to be lying (including the clerk who entered the data) for the facts on Obama’s birth certificate to be false.

    In addition to the proof of birth in Hawaii, there is the absence of proof that he was born in Kenya or in any other country. And, surely you know that if a child is carried into the USA, the immigration service asks to see either a US passport (or she or he being entered on a parent’s US passport) or a US visa on a foreign birth certificate.

    The only way to get around that would be to smuggle the child through immigration. But that is illegal and risky, and why do it when for all sensible purposes if a child were born abroad all you have to do is tell the truth about it and nationalize the child to be a US citizen later.

    But the Kenya (and all foreign born myths) holds that the parents must have smuggled the child through immigration–which is the only explanation for there not have been a 1961 US visa or a US passport found.

    This is why the conservative National Review said: “The theory that Obama was born in Kenya, that he was smuggled into the U.S., and that his parents somehow hoodwinked Hawaiian authorities into falsely certifying his birth in Oahu, is crazy stuff.”

  • Since his mother was a US citizen she could have easily obtained a visa for entry into the US for Obama. He could also have been added to his mother’s passport. There was no need to “smuggle the child” into the US.

    I am really not biased in this matter, just getting at the truth.

    Who was really not qualified by birth to be a US president was John McCain. Here is my post on that: http://johnharding.com/2008/10/30/mccains-panama-birth-disqualifies-him-as-president/

    Re: “Since his mother was a US citizen she could have easily obtained a visa for entry into the US for Obama. He could also have been added to his mother’s passport. There was no need to “smuggle the child” into the US.”

    Answer: But if Obama was born in Kenya (or any other country), the visa or the change to the passport would have had to have occurred in that country. AND, the visa or the change to the US passport would exist in application files that would be easy to find, AND NONE HAS BEEN FOUND.

    The result is that if Obama were born overseas and NO US travel document has been found, his parents must somehow have been able to get Obama past US immigration officials without showing a document. That is highly unlikely, extremely unlikely.

    Add this to the extreme unlikeliness of them even going to Kenya (or outside of the USA) because of the high expense and risk of such a trip.

    Add this to the necessity of convincing the officials in Hawaii that Obama was born in Hawaii despite no proof that he was born in Hawaii (and there is the report of the PUMA Lori that if a child were born outside of a hospital, the officials DID require a witness, such as the signed notarized statement of a midwife).

    All that would have to have happened if Obama was born anywhere else than Hawaii.

  • Granite

    By application files, I mean of course files of applications for visas or for changes to passports. Not applications in the computer sense of the term, of course.

    I am stressing that if they existed the documents would be in the files of the applications for visas or applications for changes in passports because there are birther myths (not true) that Obama’s mother’s passport file was scrubbed.

    In fact, it is unlikely that she had a passport in 1961. But even if she did, and that someone had somehow gotten into that file, if Obama had been born in Kenya (or any country other than the USA) there would be documentary evidence of it in the files of applications for visas or applications for changes to US passports. AND NONE HAS BEEN FOUND. Such files would be easy to search, and the Republicans were in charge of the State Department for eight years until January 2009, and nothing has been found.

  • There is documentary evidence that Obama was born in Kenya in my prior posts and I gave you the links. I also do know a family who smuggled their baby onto a flight from Saudi Arabia to the US in their carry-on luggage. The child was a US citizen and they wanted to save on the airfare.
    Anyway, check the documents in my prior posts – and who says that the Republicans ever searched the files for Obama’s records?

  • Granite

    What documentary evidence? Are you referring to the obviously forged “Kenyan birth certificate”?

    http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=108773

  • You are still not passing the “Judge Judy test.” Why doesn’t Obama have all his Hawaii birth records released? It would be very easy for him to do so.

  • Granite

    Answer: Hawaii sent him the OFFICIAL birth certificate of Hawaii, the only one that Hawaii has sent out to anyone since it became the official birth certificate in 2001. That is the one that Hawaii sent to him in 2007, and it is the only one that Obama can show.

    IF Hawaii were to change its rules and allow the original birth certificate to be sent out again, it will show–as the three officials (four counting the clerk) have all verified, that Obama was born in Hawaii in 1961.

    IN addition to this legal and confirmed proof, there is not a shred of evidence that Obama was born outside of Hawaii, which is a crazy myth due to the enormous expense and risk of such a trip and the fact that there is no US travel document showing that Obama traveled to the USA in 1961.

    For Obama to have been born in any other country than the USA requires the combination of:

    (1) Travel by his mother during late pregnancy (highly unlikely because of the high expense and high risk of such a trip in 1961. A round trip to Kenya, for example, would have cost around $20,000 in today’s dollars);

    (2) Birth outside of Hawaii (also unlikely);

    (3) Birth abroad despite the absence of any foreign documents or photographs showing either that Obama was born in a foreign country or that his mother was in the country at the time (highly unlikely);

    (4) The willingness of the parents to lie about his place of birth (unlikely since it would be a crime to file a false government document, and the lie would also be unnecessary since for most purposes naturalizing a foreign-born child would be just as good as his being born in the country);

    (5) Successfully smuggling the child into the USA without a US travel document (extremely unlikely), and;

    (6) Convincing the officials in Hawaii that he was born in Hawaii (also extremely unlikely).

    ALL of these six things would be required for there to be a reasonable case that he was born in any other country than the USA. What are the odds of all six of them happening?

    The Hawaiian certificate of birth is not a hospital record. I explained in a prior post how Mexicans (and I would suppose others) have birth certificates for both the US and Mexico.

  • Granite

    NO official birth certificate is a hospital record. The US government does not accept hospital records as proof of birth in the USA. It accepts only government records, state or local.

    The Certification of Live Birth is the official birth certificate of Hawaii, and it is used every year by THOUSANDS of people to get their US passports. And, the facts on it were repeatedly confirmed by two officials in a Republican governor’s administration and by the Republican governor herself.

    For Obama to have been born in any other country than the USA requires the combination of:
