Hahaha – what a Freudian slip. He could have done it deliberately or subconsciously as he could not in all honesty take the pledge with his hand on his heart. So he used his left hand (sinister) and placed it on the right breast, where there is no heart. The heart is under the left breast, unless Tom is one of those rare person with his heart under his right breast.
